004 St Vincent's (2008)
The St Vincent’s club from Marino epitomises Dublin GAA. In the 1940s the club instigated a ‘Dubs only’ rule which meant that only Dubliners could play for ‘Vins’. The club went on to dominate Dublin GAA throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. In 2008 Vincent’s became the first Dublin club to win two All-Ireland Club Championships. The team featured players from Kerry, Mayo and Tipperary alongside current Dublin panellists Ger Brennan, Tomas Quinn, Michael Savage, Paul Conlon, and Hugh Gill as well as current Dublin manager Pat Gilroy.
This is one of a selection of photographs from the Dublin City Council Photographic Collection celebrating the proud sporting heritage of Dublin.
