007 Emerald Isle Classic (1988)
Ireland’s first American Football Game took place in Lansdowne Road in November 1988 when Boston College beat Army (Westpoint Military Academy), 38-24. The ‘Emerald Isle Classic’ drew a crowd of 42,524 and was televised live throughout the United States. Lord Mayor Ben Briscoe described the game as ‘the best and most spectacular part of the Millennium celebrations’.
This is one of a selection of photographs from the Dublin City Council Photographic Collection celebrating the proud sporting heritage of Dublin.
