003 Ferguson Raid

003 Ferguson Raid

'The "Ferguson" Raid. Our picture shows the scene at the incident which constituted the causus belli of the fight which afterwards involved the entire city of Dublin. A body of armed men, using as a pretext the enforcement of the illegal Belfast boycott, and having no other authority than the Irregulars of the Four Courts, entered the garage of Messrs. Ferguson's, in Baggot Street, and seized automobiles to the value of £10,000 and destroyed a quantity of engineering plant. Our picture shows the arrival of the National Troops on the scene. The leader of the lawless exploit was arrested, and some days later General O'Connell was kidnapped by way of retaliation'. ('Ireland's Tragic Week', p. 3).
