LF01-05 Fancy Ball Costumes

LF01-05 Fancy Ball Costumes

These costumes are picturesque for 1891 and have a flavour of the Russian alliance throughout their threading. On the left, the entire piece is of eastern blue silk, ornamented with a blue and gold brocatelle (a stiff decorating fabric) front. It finishes out with white silk sleeves and chemisette. The gold cloth diadem is worked with embroidery that matches the rest of the jewellery in colour of the gems, and white gloves. The garment on the right is a dove-coloured costume in cloth, with white and gold flannel. It continues with a plain pleated skirt that fastens with white buttons down the front. The foot border is a deep band of work, which may be braided in white or in gold ribbon.
