World Wide Knit in Public

Posted in

This week sees an international event that you might blink and miss, it's World Wide Knit in Public Day/week, with events happening all around the world to show that there are knitters and crocheters too, it used to be a day but now it's from a Saturday to a Saturday (this year the 9th to 17th June) to accomodate as many people as possible.  The site lists man of the events happening, with several of them happening in Dublin.  The biggest will be (hopefully, weather permitting) in Stephen's Green Saturday 16th from about 2pm at the Playground in the Green (or the balcony in Powerscourt if it's raining) Coincidentally it's Bloomsday, and believe it or not, there is a mention of Knitting in Molly Blooms Soliliquy

If you can't manage to get to any of these events, don't forget that Dublin City Public Libraries host a number of regular knitting meetups at a variety of times in Donaghmede, Inchicore, Raheny (on their summer break at the moment) and Walkinstown.  If you follow the link you can email or phone those branches for further information.

Knitting meetups can be great fun.  If none of the ones in the libraries suit you check out Dublin Knit Collective who keeps an eye on all the meetups around Dublin if you know any more feel free to tell her or us and we'll make sure they're included.

Knitting seems to be having a serious revival alright. I was listening to Pauline McLynn on the radio yesterday - telling us about how she wants to start a 'knitting rebellion' - which I quite like the sound of... Pauline's new book for teens 'Jenny Q, Stitched Up!' sounds like a good, irreverent read about a struggling teen and her embarrassing family (and even includes some knitting patterns!) If it's on your list to review Deigh - I look forward to a knitters perspective...

I heard about this with several of my friends and was looking forward to borrowing it when we get copies in (they're on order, I have checked!) and then I took part in a competition on Twitter and won a copy, I'm really looking forward to getting it and reading it, every time the postman has delivered mail this week I've been hoping, but no.  I think I will gobble it up when it does arrive.

Great! I'm bringing a copy on

Great! I'm bringing a copy on holidays with me - so both teenage daughter and self can read it. I look forward to comparing notes...
